Mullacash House
A rural country house that was designed to work in conjunction with a number of outbuildings. The design was for a tight-knit family which required a shed for working on bikes and cars. The 4-bed house with a kitchen/dining room wing looks onto an enclosed courtyard intended to be a play area for young children in the short term and a dedicated vegetable and flower garden in the long term. The position of the main house entrance was important to the client as they wanted a protected entrance and did not want people to “always go to the back door”, as would be typical in rural dwellings.
The design uses a sustainable design strategy to group rooms with similar usages together to allow for heating zoning. The design allows for PV panels to the roofs and a ground source heat pump system with the buried pipe network to the front of the house. This house has been designed to be a A1 BER rated house and comply with the best sustainability building standards.
