The client came to us with the prospect of converting an existing garage into a self-contained apartment to be used as an Airbnb and rental unit. The project was in an area of San Diego with strict planning requirements and required a careful blend of adhering to the historic nature of the area while creating a seperate and efficient unit that would not encroach on the privacy of the homeowners. In addition, budget was extremely important as the owner was creating a space to generate income.
We explored numerous options for the design of the space to find the perfect balance of style, function and cost effectiveness. The final design created a comfortable living space for short or long term stays for two people complete with a private bedroom, full eat-in kitchen and a living room. In addition, the occupants would have access to a patio and garden area through the back doors. This project was completed in conjunction with a design build firm.
